Ästhetische Urteile können allerdings beeinflusst werden. Personen, die in eine positive Stimmungslage versetzt werden, beurteilen die Ästhetik von Objekten positiver als Personen, die sich in eher negativer Stimmungslage befinden. Ein zweiter wichtiger Einflussfaktor auf das ästhetische Urteil ist das Wissen über das zu Beurteilende und somit der Expertisegrad des Beurteilenden. In einer wissenschaftlichen Studie in Architekturpsychologie wird die Bedeutung der Expertise und der Stimmung für das ästhetische Urteil überprüft. Es soll untersucht werden, wie ästhetisch eine moderne, neu gebaute Konstruktion innerhalb einer historischen Barockstadt beurteilt wird. Dem Forscher stehen insgesamt 100 Probanden zur Verfügung, davon 50 Architekten und 50 Laien. Einem Teil der Probanden wird in einem psychologischen Labor eine positive, anderen negative Stimmung mittels eines standardisierten Bildmaterials induziert. Der Forscher ordnet die Versuchspersonen den beiden Bedingungen nach dem Zufallsprinzip zu. Es wird für die Studie eine 3-D Simulation mit der zu beurteilenden Konstruktion im historischen Kontext dargeboten und die Befragung erfolgt mit einer metrischen Skala. Es wird angenommen, dass die Experten die moderne Konstruktion innerhalb einer Barokstadt positiver als die Laien beurteilen.
